Wright graduated from Homewood-Flossmor High school in Flossmoor, Illinois and took his college education when he attended the University of Kansas. Wright also played college basketball during his stay at the university and was an outstanding member of the Jayhawks, being named as the pre-season freshman of the year in the Big twelve Conference.
