Also known as “Juan Gone”, Juan Gonzalez is a retired professional basketball player. The outfielder became active in the Major League Baseball from 1991 to 1999. The outfielder was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. In 1986, Gonzalez signed with the Texas Rangers as an amateur free agent when he was just 16.
He started his professional career for the GCL Rangers in 1986 and then for the Gastonia Rangers of the South Atlantic League in the succeeding season. Gonzalez was assigned to the Charlotte Rangers, Tulsa Drillers and the Oklahoma City 89ers before being called up to the MLB in 1991.
During the 1991 season, Gonzalez was a starter for the Texas Rangers where he was the center fielder. However, it was in 1992 when he would receive his first Silver Slugger award after coming up with a slugging percentage of .529. Gonzalez would also win the 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2001 Silver Slugger. He made it to the All-Star selection and finished fourth in the AL MVP voting for that season.
In 1996, Gonzalez was able to come up with a batting average of .314 and a .643 slugging percentage which allowed him to clinch the AL MVP title. He won the MVP title again in 1998. Throughout his career in MLB, Gonzalez was named into two other All-Star selections: 1998 and 2001.
