Joshua David Willingham was born in Florence, Alabama and is presently the left-fielder for the Washington Nationals of the Major League Baseball. He was famously known as “The Hammer” and went to college at the University of North Alabama.
He was the selected by the Florida Marlins in the 17th round of the amateur draft in 2000. He played well at the early stage of his career and made his MLB debut with the Marlins on July 16, 2004. After several games with the Marlins, he rose into the major leagues by regularly playing as a catcher for the Marlins in 2006. Williams had been one of the contenders for the National League Rookie of the Year. In the early season of 2006, he made a record on his first career multi-homer game against the Houston Astros.
Willingham was then traded to the Washington Nationals on November 11, 2008 and spent a large time on the injured reserved list. He began the 2009 season as the National’s outfielder then was sent to the Pittsburgh Pirates and played there as a left fielder. Willingham became the 13th MLB player to hit 2 Grand Slams in the same game. He is also the 7th in MLB season to accomplish this in back to back innings on July 27, 2009. As of June 16, 2010, he has 100 home runs and 320 runs batted in, with a .266 batting average.
