Josh Ford was born in Baytown, Texas on January 17, 1983. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and had a hitting percentage of .452, and posted 34 home runs and 165 RBI. While in high school, he was able to receive first-team all-state honors for three instances. At the same time, Ford was in the top seven percent of his graduating class and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Prior to starting his professional baseball career, he decided to attend Baylor adding that it has “great baseball and great academics”. At that time, he was being recruited by Stanford and Texas. During his senior year, Ford was able to lead his university team to the College World Series where he was the only one to make a home run.
He was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks during the ninth round of the 2005 Major League Draft. Ford signed with the Arizona Diamonbacks organization and was able to post a hitting average of .282 including 25 RBI for the 43 games that he was able to appear in.
