Josef Melichar (full name: Josef Melichar; no nicknames) played defenseman from 2001 until 2009 for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning. He played for the Penguins from 2001 - 2007, Hurricanes in 2009 and Lightning in 2009. Over 7 seasons, he played 349 games, scored 7 goals, and made 42 assists. Born in Ceske Budejovice, Czechoslovakia on January 20, 1979, Melichar stands 6-2 and weighs 220 lbs. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 3rd round (71st overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
