Jose Hernandez is a professional baseball player who once appeared in the Major League Baseball. Hernandez was an infielder while playing in the majors and made his last appearance in the league playing for the Philadelphia Pirates. Hernandez, who was born in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, is a right-handed player and usually played as a shortstop, third baseman and second baseman. He started his professional career shortly after he was signed by the Texas Rangers during the 1987 season as an amateur free agent.
Hernandez was first assigned in the GCL Rangers, the rookie league affiliate of Texas. He was then promoted to the Gastonia Rangers in the South Atlantic League, and then the Charlotte Rangers before splitting time during the 1991 season playing for the Oklahoma City 89ers and making his MLB debut playing for Texas.
During the 1992 season, the Cleveland Indians selected Hernandez off of the waivers and played for a season before being traded to the Chicago Cubs. Hernandez played for the Cubs for six seasons before being granted free agency. Hernandez best season came in 2001 when he played for the Milwaukee Brewers and was named as an All-Star reserve.

He played for the Rangers in 1991, Indians from 1992 - 2005, Cubs from 1994 - 2003, Braves in 1999, Brewers from 2000 - 2002, Rockies in 2003, Pirates from 2003 - 2006, Dodgers in 2004 and Phillies in 2006. Over 15 seasons, he played 1587 games, hit 168 home runs, drove in 623 runs, and stole 41 bases. Born on July 14, 1969 in Rio Piedras, P.R., Hernandez stands 6' 1" and weighs 180 lb. He attended Maestro Ladi (Vega Alta, PR) high school. His debut was on August 9, 1991 and he played his final game on October 1, 2006. Over his career, Hernandez made $17,834,999.
