He made his professional basketball debut while playing for the Taugres in the Spanish League in 1995. The Taugres is now known as the TAU Ceramica. Garbajosa led the team to win the Spanish National Cup in the 1998 season. Garbajosa then played for the Benetton Treviso in 2000. He was able to lead the team to two Italian National Cup victories as well as two Italian Super Cups and two Italian Championships. Garbajosa was named into the All-Euroleague First-team in the 2002 season.
Garbajosa was able to clinch the 2005 Spanish Cup MVP and was the recipient of the 2006 Spanish League Finals MVP.
In 2006, Garbajosa made the leap to the NBA after he was signed by the Toronto Raptors. He was a starter and was able to lead the Raptors over the .500 mark. In December of that year, he was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month. However, after an injury, he had to miss out on the rest of the season. By the end of that season, he was named into the NBA All-Rookie Team.
