Jonny Gomes is a professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball. He is currently the outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds and wears the jersey no. 31. Gomes was born and raised in California and went to Casa Grande High School in Petaluma where he played baseball. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College and then entered the 2001 MLB Draft. He was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays during the 18th round of the draft.  

 

In 2003, Gomes was able to make his MLB debut for Tampa Bay. However, he was shifting from Tampa Bay and the Durham Bulls during the 2004 season. He finally earned a spot with the Tampa Bay for good in 2005 and was a starter for the team. He was the first player from the team to hit three homeruns during one game. In the voting for the 2005 American League Rookie of the Year Award, Gomes was able to come in third. 

 

After being released by the Rays after the 2008 season, the Cincinnati Reds signed Gomes and assigned him to play for their AAA affiliate in Louisville in April 5 but was called up to the Reds in May 21. In a game against the Washington Nationals in August 2009, he was able to hit three homeruns in one game for the second time.
