Jonathan Vilma is an American football player and currently playing as linebacker in the National Football League for the New Orleans Saints. He was born in Coral Gables, Florida. Vilma took his college studies at the University of Miami where he was noteworthy for playing college football.
He stands 6 ft. 1 in. and weighs 230 lbs. Vilma started his professional after he was drafted by the New York Jets during the 2004 NFL Draft where he was the first round and twelfth overall pick of the team. During his rookie season with the Jets, Vilma proved his dominance when he was named by the Associated Press as the National Football League Defensive Rookie of the Year. During the 2006 seasons, Vilma put another solid season when he gather up one hundred fourteen tackles, one forced fumble and one interception. He also replaced Zach Thomas during the 2006 Pro Bowl.
On October 27, 2007, Vilma had been placed on injured reserve list after suffering a season ending with knee injury. During his high school year Vilma was diagnosed with osteochondritis, a bone defect that cause instability in the joint, and is suspected as a possible cause behind his season-ending injury in 2007. And on February 29, 2008 Vilma was traded to the New Orleans Saints.
