Johnny Unitas made his entry into the NFL in the year 1956 with the Baltimore Colts. But even before that, Unitas had tried out for the major league right after college. After Johnny Unitas finished college, he got drafted into the Pittsburg Steelers in the ninth round of the NFL. He didn’t actually make it to the team as there were four people trying out for the three positions that were available in the team. He was released out of the team even before the season began.

The head coach of the Pittsburg Steelers did not see any potential in Johnny Unitas and did not even give him a chance to try out in the team. Sources say that Walt Kiesling (the head coach) did not think that Unitas was smart enough to be a quarterback for the team. But during the course of his career, Unitas proved that the head coach of the Pittsburg Steelers was wrong in his conception. The coach of the Pittsburg Steelers did not even let Unitas take a single chance at even the practice games of the Steelers.

Johnny Unitas went on to join the Baltimore Colts in the year 1956 and ever since, he has made a name for himself in the NFL. Sources say that he was one of the greatest players in the NFL.
