John Anthony “Honey” Romano, Jr. is a retired professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball. He was born on August 23, 1934 in Hoboken, New Jersey. He threw and batted right- handed.
Honey Romano began his professional career by signing as an undrafted amateur free agent with the Chicago White Sox in 1954. He made his first MLB appearance on September 12, 1958 in a game against the New York Yankees which the White Sox lost. On December 6, 1959, he was traded along with Norm Cash and Bubba Phillips to the Cleveland Indians to get Don Brown, Don Ferrarese, Minnie Minoso and Jake Striker. Romano had his best seasons in 1961 and 1962 and joined the All- Stars in both years as well. In 1965, he was part of a 3- team trade by the Indians, White Sox, and Kansas City Athletics. By December 1966, he was sent to the St. Louis Cardinals together with a minor league player, Lee White. A year later, he was released by the Cardinals. He last appeared in a game on August 21, 1967 against the Houston Astros which the Cardinals lost. He retired with an overall batting average of .255, 129 home runs and 417 runs batted in.
