Johnny Oates (full name: Johnny Lane Oates; no nicknames) played catcher from 1970 until 1981 for the Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees. He played for the Orioles from 1970 - 1972, Braves from 1973 - 1975, Phillies from 1975 - 1976, Dodgers from 1977 - 1979 and Yankees from 1980 - 1981. Over 11 seasons, he played 593 games, hit 14 home runs, drove in 146 runs, and stole 11 bases. Born on January 21, 1946 in Sylva, NC, Oates stood 5' 11" and weighed 188 lb. He attended Prince George (Prince George, VA) high school and was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1st round (10th pick) of the 1967 amateur draft (January Secondary). His debut was on September 17, 1970 and he played his final game on May 24, 1981. Over his career, Oates made $93,500.
