Johnny Cooney (full name: John Walter Cooney; no nicknames) played centerfielder, pitcher and first baseman from 1935 until 1944 for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Bees, Boston Braves and New York Yankees. He played for the Dodgers from 1935 - 1944, Bees from 1938 - 1940, Braves from 1941 - 1942 and Yankees in 1944. Over 20 seasons, he played 1172 games, hit 2 home runs, drove in 408 runs, and stole 30 bases. Born on March 18, 1901 in Cranston, RI, Cooney stood 5' 10" and weighed 165 lb. He attended Cranston (Cranston, RI) (All Transactions) high school. His debut was on April 19, 1921 and he played his final game on July 30, 1944.
