John Martin Van Boxmeer was born on November 20, 1952 in Petrolina, Ontario. He is a Canadian ice hockey player before and right now, he works as a hockey coach for different teams from the year 1984 up to the present. He was first drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the year 1972. He also played forty six games for the Stanley Cup. In the year 1976, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies for Craig Levie. With the Rockies, he was given the chance to establish himself as a NHL player. When his previous coach from the Canadein, Scotty Browman became the coach of the Buffalo Sabres, he acquired Boxmeer in his team and told him that he reluctantly traded him back then.
He made a +40 season and led the Sabres to win the first place in their division and his best statistical records as a professional were made with the Buffalo Sabres. He moved to the Quebec Nordiques after he was upstaged by Phil Housley in 1984 and spends the majority of his career with the AHL. His final game was played with the Rochester Americans in the same year. In 1985, he officially retired.
After retiring, he became the head coach of the team Rochester Americans as well as the Long Beach Ice Dogs. He also worked as an assistant coach of the Switzerland’s Nationalliga A team, the SC Bern. In August 2008, Boxmeer had a heart attack in which he recovered speedily. He returned to coach the SC Bern.
