About John Riggins Memorabilia & Collectibles
John Riggins is a retired player in the National Football League who comes from Senaca, Kansas. He was a running back at Centralia High School in Kansas where he showcased early potential for professional football play. He was named to the All-American team as a member of the high school team and was also known athlete in basketball.
He went on to have his college career at University of Kansas where he was again included in the All-American and All-Big Eight Conference team. He was part of the Jayhawks success in its Big Eight Conference title in the 1968 season. They also had a shot in the Orange Bowl but lost to Penn State.
After he finished his college education, he pursued a professional career with the New York Jets which drafted him in 1971. He was a first-round selection of the team in the National Football League draft and he immediately showed great performance in his first year in the team by scoring the highest number of yards rushed and received. In 1972, he was awarded the Jet’s Most Valuable Player and received the same award in 1975. After his stint with the Jets, he joined the Washington Redskins. He was later on named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992.
