American professional golfer, John Mahaffey has won lots of tournaments. He was born in Kerrville, Texas on May 9, 1948. His real name is John Drayton Mahaffey Jr.
He had studied at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Mahaffey then turned professional in 1971 just after he graduated with a degree in psychology. He almost had his first win in 1975. He unfortunately lost the United States Open to Lou Graham during their playoff at the Medinah Country Club Meinah, Illinois. It was in 1978 when he was able to win twice on the tour which includes the PGA Championship. Mahaffey was also able to bag the World Cup individual and team event where he was then paired with Andy North in 1978.
He then became the best comeback winner in PGA history after trailing Tom Watson by seven powerful strokes with 14 holes to play. He currently lives near Houston at The Woodlands in his home state of Texas with his family. When he has a free time, he loves to go fishing. He was often sought out by other players early in his career to do some comedic imitations for which he has a unique talent. Mahaffey currently splits his time on playing in the Champions Tour and working as a roving announcer on the Champions Tour Golf Channel telecasts.
