John Harrington, nicknamed “Bah”, is a professional ice hockey player who was born on May 24, 1957 in Virginia, Minnesota. He began as a high school ice hockey star in Virginia High School playing under the supervision of Dave Hendrickson, the team’s head coach. After his high school hockey career, he was encouraged to try out for University of Minnesota Duluth ice hockey team and fortunately made it as a part of the university’s roster for four seasons. He played collegiately from 1975 to 1979 before he began his professional career. He first played in the 1980 Lake Placid games as part of the US National Team Olympic Roster.
After his successful games at the Olympics, he was assigned by the Buffalo Sabres to the American Hockey League Team, Rochester Americans. He spent a few seasons as a player before retiring and working as an assistant coach at the University of Denver. He worked under Ralph Backstrom and had his finest season in the University of Denver in 1985 to 1086. He won 34 games that season and made it to the NCAA Frozen Tour. He was also a former coach at St. Cloud University in Minnesota.
He became the head coach at Saint John University from 1993 to 2008 and helped the team reach their first NCAA Championship. He spent fifteen remarkable seasons at the university and has five MIAC wins.
At present, he works as a head coach for the Slovenian National Team and the Italian Serie A team HC Asiago.
