John Habyan is a retired professional baseball player. He became active in the Major League Baseball from 1982 down to 1996 and played for a number of teams. He is a true New Yorker and went to Brentwood High School. In round three of the 1982 amateur draft, Habyan was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles and he proceeded to sign with the team in September of that year. Habyan played as a pitcher, and bats and throws using his right hand.
Habyan played for the Baltimore Orioles’ affiliate teams in the Appalachian League, New York-Pennsylvania League, Carolina League, Southern League, and in the International League. He was called to the Major League in September 1985. His first game was in June of the next year.
Habyan also played for the New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, California Angels and the Colorodo Rockies.
Currently, Habyan is the coach for the Saint John the Baptist Cougars which has won the NSCHSAA championships for two instances out of three. He also works as a gym teacher in St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School. By the time that Habyan retired in 1996, he was able to post an earned run average of 3.85 and a pitching record of 26-24.
