John Ferguson was a professional hockey player who became popular for playing for the Montreal Canadiens. Ferguson was born on September 5, 1938 in Vancouver, British Columbia. He’s the father of John Ferguson, Jr. who was once the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ferguson’s passion for hockey intensified after he became a stickboy for the Vancouver Canuck which was still part of the Western Hockey League during that time.
He first played in the Sasketchewan Junior Hockey League with the Melville Millionaires and then in the International Hockey League with the Fort Wayne Komets. He made his move to the American Hockey League in 1960 after he was selected by the Cleveland Barons. He was assigned as an “enforcer” in 1963 and helped to protect the team’s captain, Jean Beliveau. He was selected to play in two All-Star games and won the Stanley Cup in five instances.
