John Joseph Harrington, Jr., known as Joey Harrington, is a professional football player who was born on October 21, 1978 in Portland, Oregon. He finished high school at Central Catholic High School and attended college at University of Oregon. He was a college starter for three years and received a number of recognitions for his phenomenal statistics which include a school record of 7,121 offense yards. He ranked second in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2001 and was a part of the All-American first team. He was also awarded as the Pac 10 Offensive Player of the Year and was The Sporting News second team honoree.
He was chosen by the Detroit Lions in the 202 NFL Draft as a third pick overall. He became the team’s quarterback immediately and made 12 touchdowns, 59.9 quarter back rating at the end of the season. Aside from the Lions, he also became part of the Miami Dolphins with which he spent a brief stint in 2006 and the Atlanta Falcons which he signed with in 2007. He likewise played for the New Orleans Saints and became a free agent until now.
Harrington is a CBA All-Iron award recipient and as of the 2008 season, he had 79-85 TD-INt record with a 69.4 passer rating.
