Joey Gathright  or Joey Renard Gathright, was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on April 27, 1981. He attended high school in Bonnabel High School in Kenner, Louisiana where he became a baseball junior. An outfielder and  right-handed thrower, he debuted to Major Baseball League on June 25, 2004 with the team Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He was drafted by this team in round 32 of the Major League Baseball Draft in 2001.

According to many reviews, he was one of the fastest league players with a range factor of 3.06 in 2006. He had only one home run during his Major League Baseball Career and a .263 lifetime batting average forwarding to the 2009 season.  One of his unusual talent which became useful in his baseball career was his ability to jump high. In one game against Los Angeles Dodgers, he jumped over pitcher Hiroki Kuroda who was then trying to tag him out the first base. He hit .276 in 76 games in 2005 and was able to draw 10 walks.

Gathright became part of Kansas City Royals in 2006 where he was joined by Fernando Cortez. In 2007, he broke Bobby Jenks’ record of 41 consecutive batters retired. He joined Chiacgo Cubs on December 16, 2008 and the Baltimore Orioles in May 8, 2009. After being part of Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, he came back to Orioles on March 30, 2010.
