 Joseph Paterno, famously known as simply Joe Paterno, is a professional football coach who has worked for several National Football League teams and several college football teams which includes his current team, the Penn State Nittany Lions. He is a product of Brown University where he started his football career as a cornerback and at times played quarterback, too. After he finished his college career, he became an assistant to his college head coach Rip Engle for the Penn State team. He also worked as a coach for his alma mater for five seasons.

Paterno is one of the longest staying football officials in the Penn State, being part of the coaching staff for 60 wonderful seasons. Although he was considered by the Pittsburgh Steelers for their head coach position, he was not able to work with the team which hired Chuck Noll. As a college football coach, he was able to achieve two national championships and was awarded as the Big Ten Coach of the Year for nine times. He was also the 1986 Sportsman of the Year by the Sports Illustrated magazine. Because of his great contributions for the college football scene, he was named to the College Football Hall of Fame. With John Gagliardi and Chris Ault, he is one of the hall of fame inductees who are still active with their career at present.
