Born on April 19, 1983 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Joe Mauer is a major league catcher for the Minnesota Twins. When he was in high school, he has played baseball, football, and basketball.
He had studied at St. Paul’s Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders. It was in 2001 when Mauer was voted as the Minnesota District V Player of the Year. The National Quarterback Club hailed him as the National High School Quarterback of the Year in 2001. Mauer was then chosen by the Twins as the team’s first overall pick during the 2001 draft. He also became a part of the United States’ roster at the 2003 All-Star Future Game and made the Joe Mauer signed ball that was exclusively signed by him, as a treasured item. It was on April 7, 2004 when he suffered from a knee injury. On June, Mauer was able to get back in the game. He then signed a contract with the Twins on January 24, 2005. He was able to accomplish 144 hits in 131 games and a batting average of .294.
Mauer had a good season in 2006 where he recorded a .528 average. He was also hailed as the American League Player of the Week by Major League Baseball on June 12 that also made the Joe Mauer signed ball a significant item to many fans, Mauer was also the Player of the Month in June where he accomplished a .452 batting average with a powerful .624 slugging percentage, .528 on base percentage, 11 doubles, 14 runs batted in, and 18 blazing runs.
