Nicknamed as “Smokin’ Joe”, Joe Frazier is unquestionably one of the famous professional boxers. It is no surprise he has gained considerable recognition as he won in the 1964 Summer Olympics and became a World Heavyweight boxing champion. Back in the mid-1960s, he had an incredible playing career as he beaten the likes of Buster Mathis,
Doug Jones, Jimmy Ellis, Oscar Bonavena, Eddie Machen and Jerry Quarry in order to be crowned as the undisputed heavyweight champion in the year 1970. The following year, he had another stupendous period as he fought up against boxing legend
Muhammad Ali. However, he loss to the latter in what was dubbed as the massively anticipated “Fight of the Century”. Sadly, in 1973, he also lost to another boxing great in the person of
George Foreman.
Despite he has incurred some losses; Smokin’ Joe has still enormously gained esteem for himself. He was included in the ten greatest heavyweights of all time as conferred by the International Boxing Research Organization (IBRO). In addition, he has been both named into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Although Frazier has exited from playing professional boxing, he has still shown interest in working. As a matter of fact, he’s appeared in numerous Hollywood films, wherein he secured himself cameo roles. Aside from that he’s trained his own son Marvis, but he failed to follow his father’s brilliance. Hence, Frazier has trained other fighters in his gym located at Philadelphia.
