Jimmy Rollins is originally from Oakland California, and was affectionately known as “J-Roll”. He is an All Star and former Most Valuable Player shortstop for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball. He continues to play for the Phillies up until today, and holds various awards for outstanding performances throughout the years. He is more known for his base running skills, and is a power-hitter at bat. Impressively, he has stolen no less than 20 bases in every baseball season with the Phillies, attempting to follow in the footsteps of his baseball hero, Rickey Henderson.
Other inspiring highlights of Rollins include having been selected three times to the All-Star games in the early 2000’s. He was part of the Phillies winning team in the World Series of 2008, and named the recipient of the Gold Glove Award three times in the later 2000’s. He finished second receiving the Silver Slugger Award in 2007, and was named the National League’s MVP that same year. His skills in many areas of the game developed a “five-tool” player in Rollins, or basically a player who has progressed and excelled in hitting-average, power, base running, throwing, and field abilities. Other notable “five-tool” players include Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey, Jr., and Andre Dawson.
Over the years, Rollins has been known for being active in charity events, and event campaigned for Barack Obama during the presidential campaigns. He also makes time for his own music label called Bay Sluggas.
