James Plunkett is a former player in the National Football League who hails from San Jose, California. Before he went to professional football, he had a superb college career at Stanford University. While playing in the said institution, he was awarded the Heisman Trophy and has set records in the college league for touchdowns and passing yards. He was even regarded by Jim Sweeney as the finest player in college he ever encountered, to that effect.

He started appearing in the National Football League in the 1971 season as a first overall pick of the team New England Patriots. He was a key player of the team in the AFC East and was significant in the team’s fourth place finish. He also joined the San Francisco 49ers and likewise helped the team to have a great record in the national league. He also joined the Oakland Raiders but unfortunately obtained an injury which affected his play. However, not long after, he played great in the next seasons and was even named as the Most Valuable Player in the Super Bowl XV. He was also part of the team when it reached the Super Bowl XVIII. He later on became a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
