Jim Nelson (full name: James Lorin Nelson; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1970 until 1971 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played for the Pirates from 1970 - 1971. Over 2 seasons, he started 12 games, won 6 games, struck out 53 batters, and had a 3.06 ERA. Born on July 4, 1947 in Birmingham, AL, Nelson stood 6' 0" and weighed 180 lb. He attended Burbank (Sacramento, CA) high school and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 31st round of the 1965 amateur draft. His debut was on May 30, 1970 and he played his final game on July 15, 1971. Common misspellings of his name include James james Jim jimmie jimmy Lorin nellie Nelson.
