Former catcher and infielder, Jim Leyritz was born on December 27, 1963 in Lakewood, Ohio. He has played for the New York Yankees, Anaheim Angels, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Leyritz had studied at Turpin High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was best known for his awkward stance where he keep his front leg straight and stiff while his back leg is positioned behind him and bent at his knee. He is also famous for hitting lots of postseason home runs. It was in the 1996 World Series game against the Atlanta Braves where he hit 3 home runs to the left center during the 8th inning to tie the game at 6 leading the Jim Leyritz autographed game-used bat as recognition. Leyritz played with the San Diego Padres in 1998 and contributed to the team’s victory in the National League West. He then hit unlikely playoff home runs and was able to clutch hits, which was most dramatic event of the season.
In the Division Series, Leyritz accomplished .400 batting average, 3 powerful home runs, and 5 runs batted in. It was in 1999 when he joined again the Yankees and was able to hit a solo home run during the bottom of the 8th inning of Game 4 of the World Series making the Jim Leyritz autographed game-used bat a significant item. Leyritz is currently a host in a radio show with Vinny Micucci which is called MLB Radio Daily, a program of MLB Radio.
