Jerry Alan West a native of Chelyan, West Virginia was born on May 28, 1938. He played his entire career for the Los Angeles Lakers. Known for nicknames like Mr. Clutch The Logo and Zeke from Cabin Creek. Started his career at East Bank High School and West Virginia University Mountaineers which he led to 1959 NCAA Championship game. Despite their loss he was named as the Most Valuable Player.
As he made it to the NBA, playing for the Los Angeles Lakers his career flourished and was voted 14 times NBA All-Star Team in addition 12 times NBA All-First Team and Second-Team. In 1972 he was awarded with the Most Valuable Player in the All-Star game and at the same time he won NBA Championship ring. During the playoff he averaged 46.3 points which is a NBA record.
Inducted to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and was voted for NBA 50 Greatest Players in 1996. West became the Head Coach of the LA Lakers for three years, made it every year to the playoffs and earned a Western Conference Finals berth once. General Manager prior to the 1982-1983 NBA regular seasons, under his supervision the Lakers won seven championship rings.
