Former left-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball, Jerry Koosman has played for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. He was born on December 23, 1942 in Appleton, Minnesota.
He had led in International League in 1967 before he joined the Mets in 1968. With the Mets, Koosman was able to accomplish a 19-12 record with seven shutouts, 178 strikeouts and a 2.08 powerful run average. Koosman made it two times in the All-Star teams during his playing career. He was then nominated in the 1968 Topps All-Star Rookie Roster. It was in 1969 when he recorded 17-9 with a blazing 2.28 ERA and 180 strikeouts. He became the pitching star of the 1969 World Series in a game against the Baltimore Orioles leading to the recognition of Jerry Koosman autographed baseball.
It was on 1970 he went for a 12-7 record with a 3.14 ERA and on the next two seasons he unfortunately posted losing records of 6-11 in 1071 and 11-12 in 1972. Koosman made up for his team and showed a good performance in the NLCS in a game against the Cincinnati Reds. He was able to post a 9-2 victory. He then became the winning pitcher in Game Five of the World Series in a game against the Oakland Athletics making the Jerry Koosman autographed baseball a favorite item of many baseball enthusiasts. He had his best season in 1976 where he accomplished 21 wins and 200 powerful strikeouts. Koosman was traded to the Chicago White Sox on August 30, 1981.
