French-Canadian Jean-Sebastian Giguere is a professional hockey player in the National Hockey League. As of 2010, Giguere is playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Before being able to play in the NHL, Giguere played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League of the Verdun College Francais and the Halifax Mooseheads.
Giguere made the jump to the NHL after he was selected by the Hartford Whalers during the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. During that time, Giguere was playing in QMJHL where he was named into the All-Star Second Team of the league. In 1997, Giguere appeared in his first game in the NHL for the Whalers towards the end of the season. He also played for the Calgary Flames.
After playing in the AHL for the Calgary Flames for team’s minor league affiliates, Giguere was traded to the Anaheim Ducks. After playing for the Ducks’ farm team, Giguere was called to the NHL. He became the backup of Guy Hebert and went on to play for the Ducks until 2007. The Ducks went all the way to win the Stanley Cup during Giguere’s last season with the team.
In 2009, Giguere was named into his first NHL All-Star Game. While he was playing in the AHL, Giguere was able to receive the Hap Holmes Memorial Award in 1998.
