Jayson Heyward is a professional baseball player who is presently an outfielder for the Atlanta Braves. Known as “The Jay Hey Kid”, Heyward was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey and is a right-handed player. During the 2010 season, Heyward was listed as the top prospect by a slew of baseball authorities including Baseball America, Jonathan Mayo, and Keith Law. He was also named as the top minor league prospect that the Braves had during the 2007 season by Baseball America.
Heyward attended Henry County High School and was named as an AFLAC All-American while playing for the school’s varsity team. He entered the 2007 MLB draft by the Atlanta Braves during the first round. He was 17 when he played for the GCL Braves and later with the Danville Braves in the Appalachian League. During the 2009 season, Heyward was able to play for Myrtle Beach and then the AA Mississippi affiliate team of Atlanta and later the Gwinnett affiliate team. Heyward was named as the Minor League Player of the Year by USA Today as well as Baseball America.
After an impressive performance in the 2010 Spring Training, Heyward became the starting right fielder of the Braves. Heyward was able to hit a homer during his first at-bat and was named as Rookie of the Month for the April and May months.
