Before becoming an NBA player, he played high school basketball in Artesia High School where he showed fantastic playing skills and posted a 33-2 record. He was included in the McDonald’s All-American team and to the Parade’s All-American team.
In college, he played for the Arizona State Sun Devils which he helped reach the ninth place in the Pac-10 Conference and was recognized as a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament in 2008. He was selected as part of the all-Pac-10 first team and to the All-District team by the USBWA and the NABC. He made career-high points in 2008 with 40 during a win over UTEP by an 88-58 score. In 2009, he was named to the All-Pac 10 Tournament Team and was named as the conference’ Player of the Year after the conference season.
He entered the National Basketball Association in 2009 during the NBA Draft. He was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder which first entered the league as Seattle Supersonics. In the 2009-2010 seasons, he played 76 games. According to statistics, he averaged 9.9 points per game that season and 1.8 assist per game in the regular season. During playoffs, he made an average of 7.7 points and 1.8 assists.
