Jackie Robinson was a former American professional baseball player who played as second baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the Major League Baseball. He hails from Cairo, Georgia. A perfect example of this racial segregation was the Negro League.
Before turning professional, Robinson played in the Negro Leagues for the Kansas City Monarchs in the 1945 seasons. After this, he made a short appearance in the minor leagues playing for the Montreal Royals in 1946. And finally, Robinson made his professional debut in the major league on April 15, 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson’s break out through the majors made him accomplish numerous achievements; after his debut season in 1947 in the majors, Robinson was awarded as the Rookie of the Year. Two years after he took home the National League MVP award. He was chosen in six, uninterrupted, All Star Games from 1949 up to 1954. After his last appearance in the All Star Games, Robinson helped the Dodgers to reach the World Series in 1955 and emerge as champions. Robinson’s final game along with the Dodgers was on October 10, 1956. Robinson died from heart attack at the age of 53 on October 24, 1973 in his home at Stamford, Connecticut.
