About Ivan Rodriguez Memorabilia & Collectibles
Nicknamed the “Pudge”, Ivan Rodriguez was the catcher for the Washington Nationals in Major League Baseball. He played professional baseball for six different teams, and spent most of his career with the Texas Rangers, timed in two separate tours with the team. He also played for the Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, and the Washington Nationals. Along with other greats in the American League such as Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, and Joe DiMaggio, Rodriguez was awarded the Most Valuable Player in 1999 characterized by many as one of the greatest defensive catchers in baseball history.
In 2003, Rodriguez played for Jack McKeon, Florida Marlin’s manager. The team went on to win the World Series that year, defeating the New York Yankees in six games. Rodriguez decided to move on with Detroit Tigers in 2004, signing a contract worth $40 million for four years with them. This move gave him yet another chance to visit the World Series. In the end, however, the St. Louis Cardinals won the series in five games. Rodriguez was moved around from the New York Yankees, the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and finally, to the Washington Nationals from years 2008 to the present.
Other notable achievements the “Pudge” received were the Silver Slugger Award, Gold Glove Award, and was selected fourteen times to the All-Star games. Other recipients of these awards are among the great names of Ken Griffey, Jr., Roberto Alomar, and Willie Mays. He set another record in 2009 by passing Carlton Fisk, and catching for the 2227th time.
