Irving Fryar is retired professional football player. While playing for the National Football League, Fryar was a wide receiver. Before playing in the league, Fryar attended the University of Nebraska and played for its varsity team.
During the 1984 NFL Draft, Fryar was selected by the New England Patriots. He was the first overall pick in the draft. He was with the Patriots when the team got to the Super Bowl XX and was the only one in their team to score a touchdown. The Patriots lost to the Chicago Bears in that year.
Fryar was able to play in 255 games. He was also named into the Pro Bowl for five instances: 1985, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997. He made the All-Pro selection in 1985 and 1994.
After 17 seasons of playing in the NFL, Fryar announced his retirement in 2001. By the end of his career, he was able to catch 851 passes for 12,785 yards and made 84 touchdowns.
Fryar set a number of NFL records including being the oldest footballer to make four touchdowns for one singular game. He was also able to make touchdown receptions for every season that he played in the NFL.
