Hersey Hawkins is a former professional basketball player. Hawkins was born in Chicago, Illinois and played as a shooting guard in college and in the National Basketball Association. Hawkins attended Westinghouse High School where he was one of the star players. He then decided to go to Bradley University where he played for the varsity basketball team. Hawkins had a very successful college basketball career and even averaged 36.3 ppg during the 1988 season. He is currently part of the NCAA Division I list for players who were able to score at least 60 points for one game as well as in the list of players with more than 3000 points.
During the 1988 NBA round, Hawkins was selected in the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers but he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers even before the season could begin. He was named into the All-Rookie First-Team. After posting a-per game average of 22.1 points, Hawkins was named into the NBA All-Star Game. As a player, Hawkins was known for his outside-shooting and defense.
Hawkins was traded to the Charlotte Hornets during the 1993 season and played for the team for two seasons. He was again traded to the Seattle SuperSonics in 1995. Hawkins also played for the Chicago Bulls before his subsequent retirement.

Hersey Hawkins (full name: Hersey R. Hawkins Jr.; no nicknames) played Guard from 1989 until 2001 for the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Seattle Supersonics and Chicago Bulls. Over 13 seasons, he played 983 games, scored 14470 points (14.7 ppg) and grabbed 3554 rebounds (3.6 rpg). Hawkins also dished out 2860 assists (2.9 apg), made 1622 steals (1.7 spg), and blocked 302 shots (0.3 bpg) during his career. Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 29, 1966, Hawkins stands 6-3 and weighs 190 lbs. He attended high school at Westinghouse Vocational in Chicago, Illinois and college at Bradley University. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1st round (6th pick, 6th overall) of the 1988 NBA draft.
