Gus Suhr (full name: August Richard Suhr; no nicknames) played first baseman from 1932 until 1940 for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies. He played for the Pirates from 1932 - 1939 and Phillies from 1939 - 1940. Over 11 seasons, he played 1435 games, hit 84 home runs, drove in 714 runs, and stole 53 bases. Born on January 3, 1906 in San Francisco, CA, Suhr stood 6' 0" and weighed 180 lb. He attended Polytechnic (San Francisco, CA) (All Transactions) high school. His debut was on April 15, 1930 and he played his final game on May 12, 1940. Common misspellings of his name include August Gus Richard Suhr.
