 Gorkys Hernandez is a professional baseball player who is currently playing in the minor league baseball. Hernandez is an outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates and is from Guiria, Venezuela. Hernandez is a right-handed player, batting and throwing using the same right hand. Presently, Hernandez is playing for the Altoona Curve, the AA Eastern League affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Hernandez first played for the Detroit Tigers where he was able play for the GCL Tigers of the Gulf Coast League. With a .327 BA with the GCL Tigers, Hernandez was promoted to the West Michigan Whitecaps where he played in the Midwest League.

During the 2007 season, Hernandez was traded to the Atlanta Braves for Edgar Renteria. Henderson was traded together with Jair Jurjens. Hernandez was assigned to play for the West Michigan Whitecaps during his first season with Atlanta and was selected to be part of the Midwest League All-Star. Hernandez also made an appearance in the World Team as part of the All-Star Futures Game. Throughout his stay with Atlanta, Hernandez was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the Midwest League and was ranked fifth among all Braves prospects. Hernandez was traded during the 2009 season to the Pirates together with Jeff Locke for Nate McLouth.
