Gord Murphy (full name: Gord Murphy; no nicknames) played defenseman from 1989 until 2002 for the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers and Atlanta Thrashers. He played for the Flyers from 1989 - 1992, Bruins from 1992 - 2002, Panthers from 1994 - 1999 and Thrashers from 2000 - 2001. Over 14 seasons, he played 862 games, scored 85 goals, and made 238 assists. Born in Willowdale, Ontario on March 23, 1967, Murphy stands 6-2 and weighs 195 lbs. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 9th round (189th overall) of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. Murphy officially announced retirement on March 19, 2002.
