Richard Michael Gossage, known as Rich Gossage or Goose Gossage, was born on July 5, 1951 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He played in Major Baseball League from 1972 to 1994 for several teams like Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, among others. According to a range of reviews, his best playing seasons were spent with New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres. He made his Major League Debut on April 16, 1972 with the White Sox. Industry experts say he played with a strong fastball and showed a modern example during the early 1980s. In 1987, he finished in second place in terms of career saves. As a player, he ranked fourth in most number of saves in an entire career with 310, third in number of games pitched with 1.002 and third in both innings pitched and wins in relief. He was awarded as the Most Valuable Player in 1980 and bagged the Cy Young Award that year when he played the division finals with the New York Yankees.
According to statistics, he recorded an earned run average of 0.77 in the year 1981 and is recognized for not having an earned run average above 2.62 from 19977 to 1983. He was bale to play in seven World Title series and was selected for the All-Star team eight times. In 2008, he was included to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
