About Gerald Wilkens Memorabilia & Collectibles
Gerald Wilkins is a retired American pro basketball athlete who played as shooting guard for a few teams in the National Basketball Association, namely the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Vancouver Grizzlies and the Orlando Magic. Wilkins was born in Atlanta, Georgia.
Pro basketball runs in the Wilkins’ family. Gerald Wilkins’ older brother, Dominique Wilkins, is a former Atlanta Hawks superstar, while Gerald’s son, Damien Wilkins, is currently signed in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ rosters as guard. He began playing pro basketball when he was drafted by the New York Knicks during the 1985 NBA Draft.
Wilkins was initially a starter on the Knicks, his role however, decreased with the arrival of John Starks in 1990 and Xavier McDaniel in 1992. Wilkins managed to prove an excellent defender and scorer off the bench, but became a free agent following the 1992 season. Wilkins then signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, which the Cavaliers hoped that Wilkins would be the final piece of the puzzle in order to defeat Chicago Bulls.
In 1995 Wilkins was acquired by the Vancouver Grizzlies in the expansion draft and was however, unable to help the team due to injury, playing in only 28 out of 82 games. Wilkins later signed as free agent with the Orlando Magic in 1996 and it was in his final season that he got to play with his older brother Dominique Wilkins.
