George Metkovich (full name: George Michael Metkovich; no nicknames) played centerfielder and first baseman from 1943 until 1954 for the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Braves. He played for the Red Sox from 1943 - 1946, Indians in 1947, White Sox in 1949, Pirates from 1951 - 1953, Cubs in 1953 and Braves in 1954. Over 10 seasons, he played 1055 games, hit 47 home runs, drove in 476 runs, and stole 61 bases. Born on October 8, 1920 in Angel's Camp, CA, Metkovich stood 6' 1" and weighed 185 lb. He attended Fremont (Los Angeles, CA) high school. His debut was on July 16, 1943 and he played his final game on September 26, 1954.
