 Nicknamed “Mr. Everything” and “Papa Bear”, George Stanley Halas, Sr. was a professional football player, coach, jurist, philanthropist and inventor who led the Chicago Bears of the National Football League. He was born on February 2, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois and finished high school in Crane High School. He played college football in University of Illinois where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon. He also had a few stints in the minor league and the semi-professional leagues before he was officially drafted to the National Football League for the Decatur Staleys. Aside from being a player, he also worked as a ticket sales agent and run the club’s business.

According to reviews, he coached the Staleys from 1920 to 1929, the Chicago Bears from 1933 to 1967 and owned the Bears from 1920 to 1983. Among his achievements were his six NFL Championship games and being a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year. He was also awarded as the UPI NFL Coach of the Year in 1963 and in 1965. He posted a 324-152-31 overall record in his entire football career. There were also a few football awards named after him such as the George Halas Trophy and the George Halas Courage Award. Halas died on October 31, 1983 and became an icon of the Chicago Bears.
