Known as “The General”, Gary Grant is a former professional basketball player for the NBA. He was a point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers before announcing his retirement in 2001. Grant went to Canton McKinley High School and then to the University of Michigan.
While playing for Michigan, Grant was able to come up with an average of 12.9 ppg and 4.7 apg. After maintaining those stats for the next season, Grant significantly improved during his junior year in college. He was able to post an average of 22.4 ppg and 5.4 apg. He was named as a McDonald’s All American in 1984 and into the NCAA AP All-American first team in 1987.
During the 1988 NBA Draft, he was picked by the Seattle SuperSonics during the first round. Shortly after, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Kenny Payne in the 1989 draft. Grant played for Los Angeles until his release in 1995. He signed with the New York Knickerbockers and then with the Miami Heat in 1996.
Grant’s career highs included 13.1 ppg and a 10.0 apg average during his second season of playing in the NBA and for the Clippers.

Over 13 seasons, he played 552 games, scored 4368 points (7.9 ppg) and grabbed 1283 rebounds (2.3 rpg). Grant also dished out 3013 assists (5.5 apg), made 821 steals (1.5 spg), and blocked 69 shots (0.1 bpg) during his career. Born in Canton, Ohio on April 21, 1965, Grant stands 6-3 and weighs 185 lbs. He attended high school at McKinley in Canton, Ohio and college at University of Michigan. He was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in the 1st round (15th pick, 15th overall) of the 1988 NBA draft.
