“The Kansas Comet” of the Chicago Bears, Gale Sayers was born on May 30, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas. This lad was a professional football player in the National Football League and had spent his entire playing career with the Chicago Bears.
Graduate of Omaha Central High School, Sayers was a two- time All- American player at the University of Kansas and he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs but he refused and loyally chose to play in Chicago. He then won the NFL Rookie of the Year honors in 1965 and he was the only rookie to accomplish a consecutive scoring six touchdowns in every game that led to the recognition of Gale Sayers hand signed official NFL leather football. He was able to finish his rookie year with 22 touchdowns.
In 1968, Sayers had a problem with the ligaments in his right knee in a game against the San Francisco 49ers and had a surgery and rehabilitation. Sayers suffered again his second knee injury in 1970. He then retired from the football during the 1971 campaign and started back his career as CEO of a computer company. He was again introduced into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977 and made the Gale Sayers hand signed official NFL leather football a significant thing. His life was made a movie where Billy Dee Williams played his role in the 1971 and Mekhi Phifer in the 2001 remake. At this moment, Sayers is a doing well with public speaking and as an active National Football League alumnus.
