Fred Wenz, nicknames “Fireball,” is a former American professional baseball player. He was born on August 26, 1941 in Bound Brook, New Jersey. Wenz was listed at 6 ft. 3 in. and 214 lbs. He batted and threw with his right and played as pitcher for a few teams in the Major League Baseball throughout his three year season; the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Fred Wenz started his professional baseball career after he was signed by the San Francisco Giants in 1959 as amateur free agent. Fred Wenz was however, unable to make his pro debut with the Giants and instead, on June, 1961 Wenz was sent to the Boston Red Sox by the Giants for an unknown transaction, according to sources. Wenz then made his debut with the Red Sox on June 4, 1968. Wenz managed to play for two seasons with Boston before he was purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies on November 25, 1969. Wenz had his final game with the Phillies on September 29, 1970.
