 Born on February 21, 1983 in Caracas, Venezuela, Franklin Rafael Gutierrez is a professional football player. Nicknamed “Death to Flying Things” and “Guti”, he plays in the Major League Baseball. A right-handed batter and thrower, he first appeared in the major league on August 31, 2005 to play for the Cleveland Indians. Originally, he was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent and then traded him to the Cleveland Indians on April 3, 2004. He joined the Double A-Akron team and recorded a batting average of .261 and 42 runs batted in for the team. He had another minor league stint with the Triple-A Buffalo where he played 19 games and recorded 7 RBI. Upon the major league roster expansion on August 31, 2005, he was assigned to play for the Indians. He spent the 2006 season with 43 games and .278 batting average. He played once again for the Buffalo in 2007 and batted .341. He made his very first grand slam on May 27, 2008. December of that year, he was transferred to Seattle Mariners.

 

As of June 2, 2010, Gutierrez made a career record of .271 batting average, a total of 45 home runs and 180 runs batted in.
