About Floyd Rayford Memorabilia & Collectibles


The preset hitting coach of the Rochester Red Wings of the International League is Floyd Kinnard Rayford. He is a retired professional baseball player in the Major Leagues who played third base and catcher. He played for baseball teams like the Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals.

 

During his early years in the baseball field, he was drafted as a catcher out of Manual Arts High School in 1975. He was selected in the 4th round of the amateur draft by the California Angels. In his Triple A season playing for the Salt Lake City Gulls, he batted .294 with 13 home runs as a third base player in the field.

 

As a professional baseball player, he made his major league debut for the Baltimore Orioles in 1980. He played 8 games in his time with the Orioles though spent most of his year with the Rochester Red Wings. He played on the long side of the longest game in baseball history with the Red Wings in 1981. After a year, he made a decision to go back to the Major League with the Orioles where he hit.132 in 34 games in 1982. Rayford was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals playing the backup third baseman in the season of 1983. Given a second chance, he went back to the Orioles after less than a year then he played as a backup catcher. He made his final major league season in 1987. He also played for a couple of games in the minor league for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons and Batavia Clippers before he retired as a baseball player.

Floyd Rayford (full name: Floyd Kinnard Rayford; Honey Bear) played third baseman and catcher from 1980 until 1987 for the Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals. He played for the Orioles from 1980 - 1987 and Cardinals in 1983. Over 7 seasons, he played 390 games, hit 38 home runs, drove in 112 runs, and stole 4 bases. Born on July 27, 1957 in Memphis, TN, Rayford stands 5' 10" and weighs 190 lb. He attended Manual Arts (Los Angeles, CA) high school and was drafted by the California Angels in the 4th round of the 1975 amateur draft. His debut was on April 17, 1980 and he played his final game on September 16, 1987. Over his career, Rayford made $686,500. Common misspellings of his name include Floyd Honey Bear Floyd Kinnard Rayford.
