Fernando Vina is a retired American professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball and is currently an MLB analyst for ESPN. He was born in Sacramento, California. Vina took his college studies at the Arizona State University. Throughout his eleven season career in the major league, Vina played as second baseman for several teams; the Seattle Mariners, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers.
Vina was listed at 5 ft. 9 in and 175 lbs. He batted with his right and threw using his left. Vina started his professional baseball career after he was drafted by the New York Mets during the 1990 amateur draft where he was the ninth round pick of the team and formally signed on June 11, 1990. Vina made his pro debut on April 10, 1993 with the Seattle Mariners after being drafted by the Mariners on December 7, 1992 from the New York Mets during the 1992 Rule 5 Draft. Vina’s major career highlight during his playing career was playing in the 1998 All-Star Games and being a two-time winner of Gold Glove Award in 2001 and 2002. Vina’s final game came on May 11, 2004 with the Detroit Tigers.
